Project dossierWebsite

A first website for the Enziangarten garden centre —
built so the team can look after it themselves.

01 · Starting point

The newly founded garden centre needed a first website to show its products and services — with a personal note rather than an interchangeable template, and built so that the team can look after text and images itself.

02 · Decisions

A content management system as the platform, for its open source licence, its extensibility, the security updates that keep coming and the low cost of starting. A prototype with home page, product pages and contact area was sharpened with the client over several rounds of feedback.

03 · What we did

Choosing and buying the domain, hosting on SSD storage, SSL encryption; extensions for search engine optimisation, user analysis, loading speed and contact forms; tests on a range of devices and browsers before going live. After that: keyword analysis, refined meta data and image descriptions, a content plan and training for the team.

04 · Result

A website the team has looked after on its own since the handover — with a content plan and ongoing monitoring underneath it.

What we took away

A website the client can maintain is a different product from one that forces a maintenance contract — and the choice of system has to reflect that from the start.

Training and a content plan are part of the handover: a website is finished when the team knows what to do with it.
